New Cookbooks

I had a wonderful weekend away and now I'm struggling to get back into my routines. I don't think I got much sleep Thursday through Sunday and was quite wiped out yesterday. I just lay around like a slug most of the day. But now it is time to get back to business. While I was on my little vacation I picked up three new cookbooks. I'm going to introduce two of them today. I'm really excited about both of them.

First, for a little fancier fanfare of meals, I picked up Houston Culinary Capital: Signature Dishes from America's Premier Restaurant City. I can't wait to try the Southwest egg rolls in it. This book has lots of great photos of all the meals as well as Houston culture and attractions. The recipes look like they will take more prep time and more expensive ingredients, but I think it will be fun to try something a little more difficult.

I also got a little book called The Domestic Diva's Party Cookbook . It looks like it has some fun ideas for theme parties and since spring and summer are almost here I am ready to party! This book doesn't have any pictures in it at all and is probably why it was on clearance for $2.99. I'm going to take a chance on it though even though I prefer to see what my finished product should look like. These recipes look like simplicity itself, so I may jazz some of them up, or make my own creamy soup base instead of using the canned one called for. We'll just have to see. :)

I haven't had much time to look through the third one, but it has a calendar for each month with the meals already planned out for each day. Now that sounds exciting! I have so many projects going on right now that I have not been good about planning my menus and a little help is appreciated. I do need to go through them though because my family doesn't like seafood. Sorry, but we just don't. :) So I will add some substitutions. Things may be slow around here this week (until we get to pay day and I can grocery shop) since I spent all my money on clothes this weekend. Till then we are eating our standbys such as tacos, spaghetti, baked potatoes and chili dogs. You know cheap, quick kid pleasers.
