Choices

We enjoyed a fun day playing in the snow yesterday. Trudging up and down a slippery hill should definitely qualify as exercise, but I'm proud to say that I even got out for a 3.5 mile run too. It was cold, but it was probably one of the best runs that I have had in a while. I felt good and the only problem was trying to breathe in the cold. I felt like I could have run farther, but the sun was setting and I knew the temperature was dropping fast so I headed home.

So, here is a thought to keep us going as we try to eat and live healthier:
"I choose to take action and take control."
Here are four simple things we can choose to change to move toward a healthier weight and life.

1. Stop supersizing. This may shock you so be prepared...A large hamburger, large fries and large soft drink is 1,350 calories and 54 grams of fat. A small hamburger, small fry and regular iced tea (I don't drink tea, so I would drink water, making my numbers even a bit smaller) is 481 calories and 20.5 grams of fat. If you eat out at least once a week, you can cut 45,188 calories out of your year by choosing the smaller meal. That is 13 pounds in one year! (based on 3,500 calories=1 lb fat)

2. Bag the bagel. I love bagels and cream cheese with some home made strawberry jam on it, but a bowl of oatmeal, or a 150 calorie protein bar will save you 300 calories a day. If you choose this healthier choice 3 mornings a week, it adds up to 46,800 calories saved in the year. That's another 13 pounds!

3. Take 30. You don't have to commit to an intense exercise program to see results. By going for a 30 minute walk every day you burn more than 43,500 calories in a year--12 pounds!

4. Can a Can. A 12-ounce can of soda contains 143 calories. By drinking one less can a day for 1 year, you will consume 52,195 fewer calories--15 pounds! (luckily I don't like soda)

Menu Post?
I'm not posting a menu this week because I planned normal every day things like: Tacos, Calzones, Chili dogs, etc... I'm going to get away Thursday through Saturday so I planned meals my hubby could handle.
