Cooking Class Day 1

I am so excited! Today is my first cooking class. It starts in just a little over an hour. I have five students (ages 9-14) coming today to start learning how to cook. Today we will cover general kitchen safety, cleanliness, reading a recipe, units of measure, halving or doubling a recipe, cracking eggs, separating the yolk from the whites, and making homemade waffles.

Sounds like a lot for one hour doesn't it? I hope I didn't plan too much in this first lesson, but some things HAD to be covered in the first class. The rest of it goes along with the recipe we are making.
During the lesson they will have to practice halving and doubling fractions. At the end of class and after they have eaten their waffle creations, I have a little quiz for them. Want to take it too?

Define the cooking terms from this recipe:
beat
combine
fold
pre-heat
Which part of an egg is the yolk?
Which part of the egg do you beat until it forms stiff peaks?
Describe what stiff peaks look like.

I'll let you know how it goes. Once I get settled into this new routine I will start posting recipes again.
