Ok, earlier this week I promised myself that I would go running at least 3 times this week, no matter what. No time goals, no distance goals, just get out and do something. Monday--check! Tuesday--I ran up and down my stairs and around the circle of my downstairs for 10 minutes (long story made short--I had to do some kind of exercise and since I couldn't leave the house that is what I came up with.) Today--was looking doubtful, but then...
8pm my hubby is sitting on the floor watching Food Network with me. We like to watch cake challenges, because, well we like cake. :) He turns to me and says, "All this cake is making me want some chocolate cake with your yummy frosting on it." To which all the kids ears zone in on and soon I have four people (one was already asleep) begging me to make a cake. At 8pm! And being the sucker I am, I run to the store for powdered sugar and put a cake in the oven. Now, I'm thinking, If I eat cake and don't go running I'm really going to be in trouble. Then I realized that I bought sugar but not butter! So, I get this great idea. I'll run to the grocery store, buy the butter and then run home. And that is what I did.
I put my cell phone and debit card in a bag on my back and off I went. (I left instructions for my hubby to pull the cake out when the timer beeped.) The run was great, but a little longer than I thought. It doesn't seem that long when you drive it, and actually it isn't THAT long. It was only 4 miles total there and back. But you have to understand that there is no flat surface anywhere around my house. When I run anywhere it is all hills.
It is sad that I thought it was long, but I didn't hurt any and my breathing was good. I actually think I would have been fine running longer, but it was dark and that freaked me out a bit. Luckily, my neighborhood is well lit, and there were still other runners out, even though the sky was starting to fill with lightening. It was cool and a little more unnerving to watch. I think I ran faster because I wanted to be safely home before it got too close. I was determined not to call for my hubby to pick me up! That is the runner coming out! I actually really enjoyed that time alone in the night. I just wish the world was safer to do that more often. I guess I'll just have to take my hubby with me next time. He just can't talk while we run. :)
Oh! We did have cake at about 9:45pm. A lovely buttermilk chocolate cake with homemade chocolate buttercream. And I only had a very small piece, just a taste really. I didn't want to mess up a really good day calorie wise, even if I did earn points running.
