I enjoyed a nice 5K on Labor Day. We had our annual Ward Breakfast and 5K. It is really cool to run in a race where you know everyone! We ran a loop three times that included a fairly formidable hill (especially on the last mile when you are tired). My only goal was to run the whole 3 miles without stopping and I am happy to say that I succeeded.
My friend Laura ran with me and we talked the whole time. Remember when I posted that I didn't think I was a social runner? That is generally because I can't breathe, talk and run at the same time. As we ran I actually thought we were doing pretty good, but our final time was 35:2?. At first I was disappointed because my first 5k was faster than that, then I realized that was actually really good because I DID talk the whole time! I wasn't running to win anyway. :)
It was a lot of fun to watch those who where running all out to win. Our friend Rob came in first with a time right around 20 minutes! He beat all the young men, which I think was the plan as he is the YM President. Then his lovely wife, Flori was the first woman to finish with a time of 29:54! Isn't that just awesome! Flori is running her first 1/2 marathon on Saturday and I think she is going to rock it.
