Thrifty Thursday/Store Brands

I've been putting this off, but today I am going to state the Obvious. The best way to shop and eat more economically, is to buy store brands as opposed to name brands. I have found that I save more money buying store brands on a regular basis than I do buying name brands with coupons.

Granted, I have friends who only buy certain things when they get it on sale and on a double or triple coupon day. I just don't have the motivation to get that organized and to do without certain items until they go on sale. I spend $200-$225 ever two weeks for groceries for a family of six. That may not sound that great, but that includes diapers, laundry detergent, toiletries, an occasional clothing item, and various miscellaneous stuff. Yes, I shop at super Walmart. My toddler won't stand for driving all over the place looking for the "best" deals while I waste gas. So, I spend an hour and get everything I need.

So, give your local store's brand a try. I've found that they are just as good as the national brands at a significantly cheaper price. Disclaimer: there are some things that I just have to buy the name brand. Ex. Helman's mayonaise. You may have items like this that you just grew up eating and that is just fine. I also buy name brands when they do go on sale and end up cheaper than the store brands. It does happen...occasionally. Happy shopping!

I COMPLETELY agree! I used to waste so much time cutting out coupons only to not use them when I got to the store because the store brand was still cheaper. I can't stand to drive to different stores to get the best deals either so SuperWalmart is my lifesaver!

I am really enjoying this blog by the way. I haven't been commenting but I've been reading. :) Keep up the good work!
