Motivational Monday???

I've been struggling with my motivation the last week or so. That is why there was no post on Fit Friday. How can I post a recount of my week of exercise when there wasn't any? It seems that whenever I get stressed I do the exact opposite of what I need to do--I burrow into myself and hide. What my body, mind and spirit really need is to get moving so I can forget my concerns for a while. I always find that I am stronger and more prepared to face life's challenges when I keep moving.

So, what is my motivational thought for today? Nothing specific I'm afraid. We all know what we NEED to do. The trick is doing it. This morning I pulled out my Runner's World magazine and just started reading. I get motivated by reading about how others are doing and it never fails that I want to get out and do better after reading their stories. Plus, some of these stories make me feel like a great big WIMP.

Here are some of my favorites from the November 2008 edition.

"When Sue Olsen, a teacher from Minnesota, finished Grandma's Marathon in 1995, she received two medals. That's because she was eight months pregnant with her son, John, at the time. In June, Sue and John, now 13, ran the same race again finishing together in 5:47."

"Brain Spar, 32, was an overweight kid who dreaded running laps in gym class. Three years ago, a photo of himself at 320 pounds prompted him to change his lifestyle. The veterinarian from New York, now weighs 185 pounds and will run the New York City Marathon. His comments were: In high school, if I passed someone running, the gym teacher would yell out, 'Hey, don't let the fat kid pass you!' I'm glad I'm setting a better example for my daughter. I'm running the marathon for Team for Kids. I know what it's like to be an obese kid; I want to help kids eat better and be more active."

If these people can do these amazing things, I can get out of bed and run a few miles! I need to stop being a cry baby and finding excuses. I know I will feel better afterward, so...I'm off to go running!
